The public discussion on the second largest budget in the state of Pará began on Monday. It’s Parauapebas’. At 1.3 billion reais, it represents almost half of Belém’s budget. It also corresponds to almost 7% of the entire Pará budget.
But it will be almost 20% lower than in 2014. This is due to a predictable factor: the sharp drop in the price of iron ore, Parauapebas’ main source of funds. Carajás ore is exploited by Vale, which makes Parauapebas the municipality that exports the most in Brazil and the one that provides the most net foreign exchange to the country.
